Few personalities in the LA Music scene have done more to push house & electronic music forward than Mick Cole. The UK expatriate has traveled far since planting his roots firmly on L.A. soil in 1987. Playing over 2500 gigs 10,000 hrs on the decks.
From working the seedy backroom dance floors of the rave club scene as a premier chill-out dj in the early nineties to US label manager for iconic British dance label Deconstruction Records in the latter. From tea boy at KROQ to broadcasting the sounds of the Universal underground for Groove Radio and the Aussie based SPIKE Radio network in early 2K. Cole has always carried a passion for his music collection.
Coles most notable accomplishments are L.A.’s longest running weekly dance club night The Monday Social and the legendary Moonshadows Blue Lounge. Two of L.A.’s trendiest hangouts for music fine food and goodtimes.
Monday is the club goers Sabbath. It’s notorious for being the stay at home night to recuperate from the weekend maneuvers and late-night activities. But for nearly two decades, Cole and partner Freddy Be have given Los Angeles beat seekers a long weekend with the Monday Social club. Origionally at the legendary Louis X1V restaurant thru Las Palmas, The Nacional, Playhouse and now at LA’s premier night club, SOUND Hollywood the Bud Brothers drive the sound of the underground LA house scene.
The art of bringing beats to unique locations is a Cole specialty, something he pioneered a few years back when he first bought his sounds to the trendy indoor/outdoor spot. Café des Artistes (note: the compilation of the same name produced and mixed by Cole is worth seeking out), and it’s something he still does several days of the week at Moonshadows, the picturesque, open-air, ocean-side locale on Malibu beach. A sound track for Moonshadows was released in 2006 under the title “Summer Of Six” and is exclusively available at Moonshadows.
But please, make no mistake, although Cole is licensed to chill at the aforementioned exotic locations and Hollywood’s celebrity parties, he is also qualified the rock the party that rocks the body and has done so opening gigs for Moby, The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Underworld, Darren Emerson and with one of Cole’s legendary opening deejay sets, kicking off the first official Coachella festival.
